One thing that makes Patent Attorneys cringe is
the now popular concepts of "Start Up Pitches"
and "Mind Melding". These are open forum
events where ideas are freely discussed. What
is even more shocking is that the participants in
these sessions probably don't know each other
and will probably never see each other again.
And yet, they are all too eager to share their
ideas with each other.
What is there to prevent someone from taking a
great idea and making it their own?
If you really want to launch a company, you
absolutely need to keep your innovations close
to the vest. The best alternative is to have a
patent application on file with the United States
Patent and Trademark Office. Even a signed
Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) is not enough,
and remember Angels, Investment Bankers and
Venture Capitalists won't even sign an NDA.
